My intentions with the theme of this book was to create a visual representation of the idea that what we choose to interact with is reflected in who we are.
Throughout my book, I use a lot of eyes and place different images/text or absence of image within them to emphasize the difference between looking and seeing something. Looking at something is very surface level, whereas seeing something implies a greater understanding and appreciation of what you’re looking at.
In an art class, my professor once said that we should “notice what you notice.” The simple yet important message of this blissful saying has stuck with me and been a common theme in my brain, and has left me with a sense of curiosity as to how my perception of the world differs from my peers, making me wonder what I am missing.
When physically creating my book, I wanted to emphasize the idea of “what we interact with effects who we are,” therefore I used a lot of textures, collages, pop ups, and flips to create a book about interaction with a interface designed to feel object-like and interactive as well. If you’re still reading this, thank u for interacting.
